Luther O. McCutchen, III, one of the firm’s founding principals, has been practicing law since the 1970s. He has extensive experience representing homeowners and property owners associations and is a recognized advocate on HOA matters. He counsels in the areas of document interpretation and enforcement and construction-defect litigation.

I wanted to take just a moment to talk about something that affects all of us: email security.

We’re seeing more and more stories in the news about email accounts being hacked, sensitive information being compromised, and even high-level government systems falling victim to poor security choices. In fact, just this February, Gmail announced that 2.5 billion accounts may have been compromised. That’s a staggering number and a strong reminder that none of us are immune.

So here are a few quick safety tips:

  • Change your passwords often

  • Use strong, complex passwords

  • Be cautious when opening emails, especially if something feels off

If you’re working with us on a real estate transaction, it’s especially important to stay vigilant. We will never send you wire transfer instructions by email without prior notice and without using a secure portal. The tools we use—Qualia and Closinglock—are designed to keep your information protected.

Still, the best safety measure is a simple one: always call us directly to confirm any wiring instructions. Look up our number online—don’t rely on what’s in the email. It’s a quick extra step that can prevent a costly mistake.

Stay safe and smart out there.  And remember, we’re always here to help.
